Aust Ch Stormvogel James Bond CDX
“Jake”
Sire: Aust. Ch. Rambai Silver Spinx x Dam: Aust Ch. Shadowmar Princess
Jake was my very first Weimaraner whom I purchased from Lynne & Trevor Smith “Stormvogel” kennels at Terry Hills, NSW, in 1972.
I was sunbaking on Cronulla beach in 1972 and saw this magnificent grey dog run past. I chased the owners up the beach to ask what breed of dog it was, they told me a “Weimaraner”, which I could hardly pronounce, let alone remember the name of. However, some things are meant to be because about a week later there was a photo of a Weimaraner in the Newspaper and details of the Sectary of the Wei Club of NSW. So I phoned the Secretary - Anne Knight and enquired about a puppy. Anne told me there was a litter of puppies at Terry Hills and there was one left for sale, but he was the runt of the litter and not show quality. I didn’t care as I wasn’t interested in showing and just wanted a pet.
I would take Jake to obedience training every week at Sutherland Dog Training Club and he quickly advanced through the classes and was ready to trail for his CD title in no time at all. He was a natural.
One morning after training I walked up to the an All Breeds Show that was being held in an oval adjacent to the Obedience Ground and ran into Lynne & Trevor Smith. They took one look at Jake and said “do you want to show him, he is better than the pick boy we kept”.
I ended up showing Jake from the age of 8 months and he gained his championship title with ease and was quite successful in the show ring, however, he excelled in the obedience ring, won many Open Class Obedience Trials with scores of 196/198 out of 200.
He was the very first Weimaraner to win the Weimaraner Obedience Dog of the Year, Wei Club of NSW.
His name is the first one on the perpetual trophy that is still in existence today.
Jake had gained one leg of his UD just before his untimely death at age 7 years.
I feel very privileged to have had a dog like Jake as my first Weimaraner.
